![]() | Canon RF 14-35mm f/4 L IS USM Pros: Truly compact size, the only RF zoom so far that manages to reach 14mm, stratospheric sharpness already at f4 better even than RF 15-35 f2.8 Cons: Inexplicable degradation of sharpness only at 35mm which is still bearable, already at 30mm disappears immediately, usual af and is keys not up to an L series. Opinion: Really successful lens for compactness, performance and lightness, in my opinion ideal for landscape photos, photographic trips or if you need a wide angle (zoom) pushed without the weight and bulk of the brighter brother. As a construction I copy the L RF series even if I have already noticed a hair of dust in the rear lens (the protective one that attaches to the barrel), so I reserve for the actual tropicalization of this lens. Like almost all the L series RF always has those af and is horrible and impractical keys (unsuccessful design because they are difficult to identify if you look for them with the touch). The sharpness as already mentioned is excellent already at f4 with all focal lengths except for the longer limit; at 35mm it inexplicably loses sharpness and incisiveness (a real shame because in all the others it is even better than the RF 15-35); at 14mm you notice a slight distortion, the photos are still spatial, the vignetting is noticeable but I do not consider it a defect, I like it so much that sometimes I accentuate it in post so it simplifies my work. Curious the fact that the barrel stretches respectively to 14mm and 35mm in half remains closed, it would have been nice to see it closed in one of these two focal lengths even if I think it is a purely structural thing. Even the hood being a wide angle is very compact and goes well with the lens (highly recommended a protective filter to preserve the front lens). Price decidedly high considering some things mentioned, it is falling slightly only in this period, paid new at € 1600 with five years of warranty, happy only because at this price you can not even find used not because it is an honest price. sent on September 15, 2022 |
![]() | Canon RF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM Pros: One-of-a-kind compatezza (great work by Canon), sharpness and AF speed Cons: Compatibility with multipliers compared to brothers, for me it is a slight defect because I have never used them even in EF Opinion: Two weeks after the purchase I put a small review of the white "RF 70-200 F4". On a constructive level I found it very robust, it immediately gives you the impression of having in your hand an L series, the barrel that comes out gave me some doubts in terms of solidity instead it does not have strange games. In my opinion, the zoom lock button is also very useful, especially on this lens where the inner barrel comes out several cm (especially in crossbody transport where you would risk impacting on other objects); for now the zoom ring has the right resistance so even walking without lock does not stretch. Interesting also the white lampshed, I think plays its part in the hot summer periods (the hook is very soft, maybe even too much since once closed it has a small game). Aesthetically closed (at 70mm) it is very beautiful, even the combination with the lampshed is fine in my opinion, I also realize that at 200mm it loses a little its masculinity and makes you disfigure if you pass next to an ef 70-200 2.8 ? As for the sharpness and quality of the image for now it has satisfied me , combined with the R6 churns out beautiful rows, the f4 are already sharp all over the frame and with a pleasant bokeh, in particular at 200m, with the EF I was paired with always soft rows and with a very often inaccurate af, in particular it angered me to see immobile subjects out of focus; by now I had to twice before shooting (a ridiculous thing for cameras or lenses of this level). I put the AF to the test with cross bikes that have continuous irregular movements, I have to say that it was really little wrong, a few shots out of 200 total, a small piece compared to the past with SLRs. Unlike those who preceded me in the review (which I thank very much for the kindness the info provided) I did not miss the ring for the tripod I think precisely for the small size, maybe it would have been nice a window to adjust any additional filters (I do not use them but for landscape photographers maybe it would have been useful). I keep a reservation about the possible dust infiltrations that can have this kind of lenses, I would hope not since in the past I had the 17-55 f2.8 efs, in 6 years of heavy use I noticed yes and no 3 grains. sent on March 04, 2021 |
![]() | Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS USM Pros: Sharpness, aesthetics, additional ring and IS Cons: Lens length and AF and IS keys not lens level Opinion: I took it to match with the R6, I found it used on RCE at 2000€ so I can not complain about the price, in a few months it will be new at this price so it will be in line with its EF brothers. I appreciated the speed of AF and the sharpness, we hope it will stay that way since the Canon on that side has always let me down. Finally after decades IS was introduced in 24-70 2.8 so on paper it remains the best ever; to be picky I didn't really appreciate the two keys AF and IS, they look made for non-L lenses (smallness anyway). The overall design still remains very nice, I think one of the nicest in general, I would have appreciated a lower total length since the 70-200 2.8 managed to reduce it to a similar length (I speak as ignorant anyway, if it was done so it means that some technical impediment maybe there was). Very nice also the anthracite graft that perfectly matches the R6, not lastly the additional ring, I thought it was useless instead I put the balance of white, having finished the keys :-) Obviously it is not very light but the quality is weighed :-) sent on November 28, 2020 |
![]() | Canon EOS R6 Pros: All the comforts of a bridge with the quality and handling of a reflex Cons: Optional outdated battery grip Opinion: I took it recently taking advantage of the offers of the period, in the standard kit there was the 24-105 f4-7.1 (I still do not understand the meaning of these dark optics); I didn't even mount it, I opted for the RF 24-70 f.2.8 IS which works excellently with this type of body. The first impressions were positive, after reading many comments I was disturbed by the lack of the top display, instead I adapted immediately by checking the various adjustments on the viewfinder or main display, perhaps this system makes the setting even faster (all this however at the expense of a shorter battery life). Customization is the strong point of this machine, with every key or roll you can do what you want; Not least the additional ring in the case of rf L optics. I do not dwell on the qualities of the AF because I have not yet tried it with moving subjects, the menu is still very similar to the 7DII or 5DIII so I did not have much difficulty understanding it. Another very convenient thing is the real-time exposure visible on the viewfinder, definitely comfortable compared to a traditional REFLEX, this allows me to guess the right exposure already from the first shot (for those who obviously like me work only in manual, you are less slaves to the exposure meter). Even the adjustable display is obviously a gem, in addition to all the merits mentioned by closing it turned around it always remains well protected from accidental swipes. The files look good to me, good even the high iso seal, definitely better than the other two cameras mentioned above. The machine has always found it unplastic and finished very well like all canons, combined with the RF 24-70 you feel the lack of a battery grip to hold it in a serious way; precisely in this landslide I found the combined battery grip obsolete, I find it absurd to charge 400€ a handle that has nothing innovative. With such a machine it would have been nice to introduce thinner batteries so as to churn out a less bulky battery grip and finally with quick attack by retirement that horrible roll. Of course, wi-fi for file transfer and remote control via app was a must these days, not least the ability to sweep all over the viewfinder with the af point without losing reliability. sent on November 27, 2020 |
![]() | Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II USM Pros: Sharpness, colors, and image quality when docking Cons: VERY disappointing AF compared to the cost of the lens Opinion: My experience with these bianconi has always been bad, the quality when hooking is also good, unfortunately they have an inconsistency on the accuracy of focus (in my opinion shameful for the money that pays them). Absurdly my old 70-200 f4 was more accurate paired with a 350D than these super bright beasts. In sports they are a real disappointment, in the burst can make you 6 photos out of ten in focus as 6 out of 10 out of focus (among other things distant subjects are almost always wrong). I tried everything (70-200 f4 normal and stabilized/ 70-200 f2.8 smooth and stabilized first and second version), shipped almost all in service centers for further verification. My conclusion after a decade of photos is that the Focus Canon is a disillusionment, both in terms of the machine body and the lenses. In particular this 70-200 is perhaps the best of the lot, far from having a product worth the money spent. sent on June 25, 2019 |
