![]() | Nikon Z 85mm f/1.2 S Pros: Rendering, image quality, blurry, no AC Cons: Weight, size and partly the cost Opinion: Recently bought selling, reluctantly, the Nikon 105 f1.4, a truly extraordinary lens for sharpness and blur but which I used with FTZ. Not liking adapters I decided to sell the only F lens still in my possession for this amazing 85 f1.2. What can I say, soft and progressive blur that creates dreamlike, almost dreamlike imprints and that, due to the extreme sharpness even at f1.2, takes your hand and you would always shoot wide open. The optics are very versatile and less limiting than the 105, especially indoors, and have an excellent build quality, except for the lens hood that looks like the tube of a stove (they could do it at least petal like that of the 50 f1.2). It's a focal length that I love and that I was waiting for a long time seeing the images that the Canon counterpart returned, the only sore point is the price, even if in part justified by the quality and the lens, and the size: it weighs and weighs almost like a 70-200 2.8 !! I managed to find a refurbished specimen on Nikon Store and, given the favorable price together with the sale of the 105 1.4, I couldn't resist. Did I do it right? I'll know in a few months when I use it in more demanding jobs than a few shots on the fly of a model, but I think that this lens only to the Z9 with which it matches perfectly, will give me great satisfaction. Last but not least, I have to mention the speed and silence of the AF that with Z8/Z9 doesn't miss a shot even at TA sent on March 19, 2024 |
![]() | Nikon Z 50mm f/1.2 S Pros: Sharpness, blurry, construction, IQ Cons: Weight, size and cost (but it's worth them) Opinion: A controversial lens, in the sense that it has a crazy quality even at f 1.2, quality directly proportional to the size with really crazy optical performance. That said, I must say that it returns pure magic, shots with great personality and characterization with a sharpness at full aperture really surprising. I also own the 50 z f1.8, excellent and much cheaper and more portable but that can not be compared to the yield of this one 1.2 ; as said by others it is a lens "out of mind", in everything . In low light this lens behaves beautifully, the bokeh is creamy and progressive, fast autofocus. It is not an everyday lens or occasional street, but if you have in mind particular projects this optics certainly helps to realize them. Is it worth buying? It's a very subjective evaluation, the cost and the weight towards the little brother 1.8 are coniderevoli, but when you shoot at 1.2 you forget that maybe you were crazy to spend that amount for a "50ino". I have also used a sigma art 50 1.4 in the past, but here we are on another planet sent on March 30, 2022 |
![]() | Nikon Z9 Pros: I would say everything, from ergonomics, to finishes, EVF, autofocus, burst, sensor Cons: Nobody Opinion: Dear Nikonist friends and not, I recently retired the Z9 and the first thing I thought doing the unboxing is "hell for me is too much .." Imposing, heavy but with fantastic ergonomics, it grips very well and the finishes are of excellent quality. Stunning the EVF, bright and devoid of any blackout, perhaps does not have the highest resolution on the market, but who cares goes to God !! Similar but more extensive menus I repeat to the Z7 II, however always very familiar for those who are used to the Nikon world. Fantastic tilting LCD, I find it really innovative. There are many items related to the autofocus menu (I have not yet tried them all and the battery is currently under charge), made two shots on the fly to the dog with immediate and precise hooking (a dream repeated to the other Z, here we are on another planet) I still have not done thorough tests for the image quality or the Hit Rate of the burst, probably in line with other brands on machines of this level. I shot in closed and poorly lit ambuenti with various artificial lights (neon, LED bulbs, ceiling spotlight) and I did not notice any banding even at 1/32,000. I go back to repeat the first impression was of joy, disbelief but also of dismay: for me it is really a lot of stuff, perhaps too much and probably I will not be up to this monster even after 25 years of photography behind (it is my first flagship .. but who made me do it ... ) for those who are waiting for it ... I believe that the wait will certainly be rewarded. I don't know if I'm going to sell my Z7, carrying around such a monster is like driving a Lamborghini for a neo patenato. Power is nothing without control. Buoana light to all sent on February 23, 2022 |
