I recommend it to those who want maximum AF performance and for image quality in highly dynamic scenes and in all light conditions in the field. Paid new €2,950. Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM Pros: Size, weight, image quality, cost Cons: None Opinion: I bought this lens for its size (2.5cm long), weight (117gr on my precision scale), brightness (f/2.8) and 28mm focal length to do mainly Street Photograpy and Reportage. With the R5II it fits perfectly and it is a real pleasure to shoot even for the whole day, always fast and precise, very sharp at TA and with a pleasant blur, you can face any event even very hectic without effort, remaining focused on the scene, he follows faithfully with extreme constancy and precision of results, he never makes mistakes, It never disappoints and delivers beautiful, high-quality images with beautiful colors, a real pleasure for the eyes. What else to say, buy him and have fun, he will be your faithful friend of adventures and work. Super recommended sent on 08 Maggio 2026 |

Canon RF 28-70mm f/2.8 IS STM Pros: Professional-grade image quality; sharpness and blur at f2.8; speed, quietness and AF/tracking accuracy; lightness; compactness; customizations; tropicalization; stabilization; fluid and precise ferrules; resistant to flair; well corrected AC, vignetting and distortion; price; robust materials that are pleasant to the touch; Cons: If we want to be picky, the closure system seems atypical to me, but in fact, it is functional to save space in the bag, I don't know if it is a real cons. Opinion: I had the RF24 105f4 IS L USM with which I have always been very comfortable as a travel all-rounder but, in some situations, especially at indoor events or in the evening, the f4 was often tight for me having to resort to high isos. It was also not really compact and light to carry around all day, so I started looking for a smaller, lighter, tropicalized replacement, with excellent af and image quality equal to or superior. I also tried small and fixed solutions, such as the RF45f1.2 and RF50f1.8 but the sharpness at TA in the street and when there is little light was poor. So I read the many flattering reviews of the new RF28 70 f2.8 IS STM and decided to check for myself if it was actually as good as the various reviewers on YouTube described it. I bought it on Amazon together with the lens hood for €1,139. So, so far I have used it mainly for street photography and portraits and I can safely say that the lens is actually of better general quality than the previous entry level lenses STM both in terms of materials and image quality, it practically represents the new mid-range level so awaited and desired by Canon's advanced amateurs, able to rival even for the price with third-party lenses. To date, the RF16 28f2.8 IS STM of the same range is also available that matches perfectly with this new RF28-70f2.8 in order to have with only two lenses, focal lengths between 16mm and 70mm f2.8. A similar RF70 200 IS STM will probably also be released to complete the mid-range f2.8 triad. Returning to the 28 70 f2.8, the images are very beautiful, always sharp, with all light conditions already from f2.8, so much so that there is no need to close the diaphragm except to increase the depth of field and sharpness over the entire frame according to the needs of composition. The blur is natural, soft and gradual, I didn't find any particular problems. AC, distortion and vignetting are present, especially at 28mm but are handled very well by activating the corrections in the camera. The resistance to flaire is also very good, no problem in photographing even against the light. The colors are typical Canon, so very beautiful, warm and pleasant without toning, with the 28 70f2.8 they seem even more neutral and well calibrated. Even the white balance seems more centered and neutral to me, at least with my R5II. The autofocus is fast, silent and always precise in following the subject, even if it changes direction suddenly, as in sports, I photographed a skateboarder on the ramps during his flying evolutions and he didn't miss a single photo! I didn't imagine that Canon had improved the performance of the new STM motors to these levels, well done. I also noticed the same improvements with regard to the stabilizer, the images are now smoother and without shaking in videos but also in photos it is appreciated because it allows you to completely freeze images especially with long times and low light. So let's get to the brightness of this compact and light lens: it is the main reason why I sold the RF24 105f4L IS USM, now in fact with the RF28 70f2.8 IS STM, I can face events of all kinds, even indoors or in the evening, as it happens many times, without fear of not making it with the isos. I have already tested it indoors in low light and it works really well, it focuses almost in the dark and the images are always of high quality. In conclusion, the constant brightness f2.8, the quality and sharpness of the images already at TA, together with the excellent stabilizer, tropicalization and lightness, are its strengths, I don't like the opening and closing mechanism making it impractical sent on 06 Marzo 2026 |
