![]() | Panasonic GM5 Pros: dimensions, weight, quality of raw files, fast autofocus, efficient touch screen for manual focusing Cons: poor quality of the viewfinder, sometimes disappointing Jpeg, heats up a lot, little battery life Opinion: the advanced settings of the high and low lights can lead to Jpeg of poor quality, with chromatic flatness and very bad rendering on the skins, but the Raw files are excellent. It is completely silent only if the lens is at full aperture (or with a mechanical diaphragm lens) and the automatic closing of the diaphragm induces a delay in release (about 1/10 of a second), which can be detrimental when looking for the perfect moment. The dynamic range is a little lower than that of the LX100 for example. Of course it is not stabilized and therefore it is very difficult to focus with a manual lens on medium and long focal lengths. But the GM5 remains excellent: it would be silly to ask the impossible for such a small interchangeable lens camera! sent on August 16, 2025 |
![]() | Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 28-85mm f/3.3-4 (C/Y) Pros: Sharpness, micro-contrast, strength, homogeneity (good at all focal lengths) Cons: Front lens that turns when focusing, weight (a problem or not, depending on use) Opinion: Used on a Sony A7IV, this zoom is really excellent, and better than some Zeiss primes at equivalent focal length! At its shorter focal length for example and at full aperture, the image of the 28-85 is of better quality than that of the Zeiss 28mm 2.8 at f3.4; which lacks sharpness on the edges. (I could not compare with the 28mm f2 -Hollywood-, which I do not own). For video use, the variation of length according to focal and focus can be a problem with a matte-box (10.5 to 15cm). sent on March 27, 2025 |
![]() | Yashica ML 21mm f/3.5 Pros: Strength, sharpness, compact... Cons: Nothing. Opinion: I have only used this lens with a Sony A7IV, and never made argentic photos with it. The A7IV's JPEGs are disappointing, with contours giving a video effect of the 80s. Obviously the A7IV does not know how to develop images of 21mm, giving it a correction of detail much too advanced even without looking for that. But a raw file, developed for example with RawTherapee, is simply fabulous! Even observed at 100%, the images are perfect at f:5,6. sent on December 07, 2024 |
![]() | Panasonic Lumix LX100 Pros: excellent image quality, very good ergonomics, bright lens... Cons: just a little too big to be constantly in a jacket pocket, lens sensitive to dust ingresses and that tends to malfunction with time (like many cameras with zooms). Opinion: One of the best cameras in its class, better than many 16 or 20 MP cameras. He knows how to do everything and does it well: landscapes, portraits, street, macro... The "live-view" mode is very effective: the image is precise, comfortable, we know precisely before shooting what will be the photo. Very good image dynamic range when you know how to set it, good colorimetric rendering. sent on November 02, 2024 |
![]() | Yashica ML 50mm f/1.4 Pros: Quick, small, light weight, sharp... Cons: None, except maybe that with an adapter on a digital device it's a little bit long. Opinion: Great lens for full frame, APS-C... Y've got one since 1983. I used it first with a Contax RTS II, I have abandoned it too many years long (using compact camera with zoom), and at least I rediscover it with a digital camera with interchangeable lens. It is both very sharp and very soft. Perfect for landscape, portraits, black and white, colour, street photography... It can do everything! sent on March 21, 2020 |
