Sergio Vezzola è nato a Brescia nel 1959.
Dopo gli studi ha lavorato presso l'Ospedale di Desenzano fino al 2004, alternando, a partire dal 1992, lunghi periodi prevalentemente in Africa subsahariana prima come volontario e poi come cooperante esperto, fino al 2011, anno in cui ha deciso di ristabilirsi in Italia.
Nel suoi quasi vent'anni di Africa ha vissuto in Zaire (ora Repubblica Democratica del Congo), in Gabon, Cameroun, Congo Brazzaville, RDC, Burkina Faso e in Marocco.
Durante la sua permanenza in Africa ha visitato per lunghi periodi il Senegal, la Costa d'Avorio, il Togo, il Benin e la Nigeria.
Attualmente vive a Padenghe sul Garda e lavora a Brescia.
