irix_11_f4 Irix 11mm f/4.0

Pros: Build quality, adjustable focus friction, weather sealing, sharpness, color rendering

Cons: Vignetting, flare, distortion not very easy to manage

Opinion: I have been using this lens for a few years now for interior photography. The extremely wide angle of view is a crucial feature and allows easy shooting of spaces, not possible with "standard" lenses such as 14 or 16mm. Sharpness is very good on reflex bodies; on the Nikon D810, for example, it is more than satisfactory. Finally, the most recent adaptation on the mirrorless turned out to be a surprise beyond the best expectations. On the Nikon Z5 II, for example, I found a high increase in sharpness and no errors in focus. Priceless... The only features to look out for, as with all ultra-wide-angle lenses, are distortion and vignetting. Adobe has incorporated the profile of this optician into its database, so they are easily checkable; however, sometimes you need to act manually against the autocorrect values. Obviously, the control of lines and perspectives during the shooting phase contributes a lot, so it is a good idea to pay some attention when shooting. The only downside is a certain amount of flare in particular lighting conditions, for which it is preferable to pay some attention. Net of all possible considerations, it is important to know that such extreme objectives require conscious and shrewd management. Having said that, my final judgment is extremely positive (9).

tamron_24-70_f2-8vc Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD

Pros: Optical performance, Reliability in use, robust construction, versatility.

Cons: Vignetting and distortion a bit high.

Opinion: Unlike those who preceded me, my experience with this lens is extremely positive. Considering that this is a zoom designed for the DSLR system, I think it is a very balanced lens, able to fully compete with the Nikon and Canon originals. I have been using it for about six years in the professional field and I have not encountered any problems, nor have I ever had the need to calibrate the m.a.f. in the car. Used with Nikon D610, D800 and Nikon D810, sharpness has always been more than excellent at each focal length, with a slight failure at 70mm at the widest aperture. However, nothing dramatic, since the subject is still very well defined. I do not exclude that it is a design choice, given that the aforementioned focal length would be primarily dedicated to portraiture, where generically too pronounced engraving is not required, and in which the value of f/2.8 can be "sacrificed" in favor of greater definition at subsequent apertures. And in fact, from f/4 onwards, at this focal length the lens is always very performing. At 24mm the distortion is a bit pronounced in absolute terms, and this is also present at the maximum focal length, albeit to a negligible extent. However, it can be easily corrected via software, since the lens profile is contained in the Adobe database. In Lightroom, for example, I keep it active, so as to have both this and the vignette automatically corrected. After all, the Nikkor 24-70 VR is also affected by light fall at the edges, and in much greater quantities ... That said, the Tamron is robust enough, it has an effective stabilization system and the autofocus is definitely efficient and precise. Frankly, I wouldn't be able to attribute any real flaws to it, except those typical of any zoom.
