Una Mastigias papua si riflette sulla superficie del "Jelly fish lake" sull'isola di Eli Malk a Palau (Micronesia). Questo lago e molto particolare: è abitato solo da due tipi di meduse, da alcuni pesciolini e qualche anemone (Entacmea medusivora). Non avendo nemici da cui proteggersi le meduse hanno perso il loro potere urticante. Il lago è letteralmente invaso da migliaia e migliaia di questi Scifozoi. Non è possibile immergersi in questo lago: oltre i 15 metri di profondità infatti, per ragioni chimiche, l'acqua contiene percentuali mortali di solfuro di idrogeno.
