, 1/125 f/2.0, ISO 400, hand held.

very nice and simple, I like the light. Maybe I cut a little 'less than the top.

As it is designed, basic, clean, minimalist and above all very close, I would say that he has no particular weaknesses. Except as he said, perhaps a little 'less cut up, (while cutting which is a very precise compositional choice)
Bravo

This picture has removed all doubts about purchasing dell'85mm 1.8 for quality optics, but .... precisely because it is a photo studio and here as the setting could be a beauty, the blur is too pronounced. I give you an example: I want to advertise an eyeliner and I take a picture with fire in his eyes, just like yours, would work. Here, however, there is nothing particularly important, the blurred highlights the blue eye but the left eye is darker than the right one. In the pictures of fashion, beauty, fashion, never use a wider aperture so, precisely for the reasons that I have explained above, at the same time creatively can be a choice, then both eyes must be the same for light ;) the rest, click on the whole is great, the perfect shot from my point of vista ... careful always to study in contrasts ... Hello Beppe :)

Thank goodness is the first attempt!
For me it is very beautiful, impact, I do not have the competence to be "critical" but if I have to make a judgment I would say that the left side (his right) is a bit overexposed and has lost detail, but probably would have lost the splendid light of the right side and eyes (beautiful).
One thing .... perhaps, that spot on the nose (piercing?), In my opinion or maybe went evdenziata or hidden, you say?
However beautiful!
Well done, as usual.
Gianni

Thank you for your suggestions, I really appreciate.

@ Marcomalingambi: yes, the 85 1.8 is a great lens.
Your reading and your suggestions are really valuable.
In fact, going around the net in search of portraits from which to draw lessons I've noticed that in the photo studio we tend to use diaphragms much more closed and now I also understood why. I had in mind some photos with a beautiful blurred and I wanted to try that effect but I realize that there must be a meaning, a reason to make a selective maf so tight in the studio.
I have another photo that I want to propose here to receive advice in particular on the choice of composition but I realize with horror that the photo was made absolutely diaphragm very close.
Thanks for the advice, I'll make tesgold.

@ Gianni: I have only the pilot light of a soft box, rather weak, and the contrast between the sides of the face in spite of the reflector was high. I was careful dodging the histogram during shooting and then adjust the lights at or near post.
That speck on the nose is a diamond paste, I was very undecided about whether to leave it or remove it but I did not think that the right thing to do could be the one that you suggested, remove it or highlight it in the right way.
Thanks to you too.

To cut up, while shooting I was kept slightly wider but do not know why after I decided to cut a bit 'up and to the left, put below the original composition, the difference is minimal but perhaps important.

hello

I forgot ... the reason why I had cut up was to bring eyes to the area of ??third parties.

The sharpest lens especially in the standard lenses in. F / 8, take a look at the MTF charts of the manufacturers of the lenses ;) aspect of your other photo studio ... Good job

The photo I like very much. My compliments. Only note in my humble opinion is the hair on the right that fill a bit 'too the picture and also a little bit ascurano the eye of the beautiful model.
For the rest, I love the bright fixed, for me I had done at f1.4 would have been even more 'beautiful ... :-D

I am opposed to the second cut yourself proosto, I think the first photo perfect compositionally speaking.
If you choose to highlight the close eyes in this case the first cut for me is winning.
In the second picture certain details are lost in the face of another which I was not your intention to exploit.

To help you in the lights I do not know how little expert.

On close a hair more instead share.

HELLO and congratulations.

For me the great thing about this shot is precisely the impact of the eyes and lips that are the "keys" of beauty, I also have the 85 1.8 and did not close and never more than 2.8, at the cost of using the ND! ;-)

The cut I like the way you've accomplished, improves the composition. The left eye, the model, is a little bit darker but it is normal also saw the arrangement of the lights. Ultimately a great portrait "soap and water", congratulations.

I honestly do not much approve of those who want to "force" the shots inside the rigid canons.
The photo is something very personal, if not made for particular reasons, it must first of all convey something.
Of course if it is badly cut, if it is blurry or something else becomes undefined.
But if the whole is pleasing to the devil the technique el 'impact zones' s shadow.
Personally it a shot very nice and pleasant to look at where
have highlighted the model's face all the soap and water.
Bravo! ;-)

Thanks again to everyone for their suggestions and comments you have left.
Of course tastes in photography, as in all things, perhaps, are very personal and in principle I agree that they can feel free to not follow the rules and express themselves in a spontaneous way.
However, I believe in the rules and following them I learned a lot in photography, of course every now and then I go out, sometimes a lot, but I am convinced that there is a way ... you know ... objectively effective way of communicating with images, a way to make an image more readable so that the viewer will be brought to focus on what the photographer really wants.
Not to mention with a picture of when you want to describe a scene or tell a story, if the composition does not follow certain rules of communication content is hardly understood by all.
Of course there are some exceptions.

Being a newbie when it comes to portraits I did not think much before doing this photo session and all that day, I simply chose to take pictures with two different lenses, 85 and 40mm but always grand opening.
It may seem strange but I took a few lines written in this forum to understand that in fact there are rules that help to compose a picture more pleasant even in the picture, that there are "tricks of the trade" that make the face or more of the details of the same or less in evidence.

Last Sunday I had for the second time the opportunity to make shots in Models, outdoors and in the studio, and of course my approach was the same, 85mm f / 2 and 150mm f/2.8, instead of in the studio I wanted to try take withflash in manual setup and as a result I had to shut down to f / 8 or even more to get the right exposure.
Well, while shots outside in large openings seem ok those in the study seem ok just because being forced to use a smaller aperture, there were people more experienced than me who had set up the set and adjusted the lights.

All this now seems more sensible.
Thank you.

Oh yes Franco, a diaphragm a bit 'more closed would not have failed.
Thank you for your comment.

Very nice photo, I like so much. Then the light you have wanted you so, so of course the left eye would be more dark. I think the only fault you notice and the right eye of the girl that the light created that sovrapposizionedi light. But overall it is very nice.
Greetings
