Le gare su terra sono attività nate all'inizio per allenarsi alle gare su neve, si svolgono utilizzando al posto della slitta dei mezzi forniti di ruote.
Le categorie sono: Dog-cross (padrone/conduttore e cane legati tramite imbragatura-1 o 2 cani) , Bike-Joring (padrone su MTB o monopattino trainato/aiutato dal proprio cane) e Kart (Musher su "Biga" trainato da 4-6 cani). Il concorrente è posizionato in piedi sul proprio mezzo (una specie di triciclo a 3 o 4 ruote a seconda del numero di cani), ed aiuta i cani nelle salite spingendo con un piede o correndo dietro al kart..
"Musher" stà per conduttore.
Per chi è interessato esistono sul territorio nazionale scuole per sloddog dove si possono usare i propri cani o quelli della scuola per diventare un Musher.
