Qualche giorno fa insieme a degli amici sono stato a visitare la Riserva naturale delle Grotte di Pietrasecca (Comune di Carsoli - L'Aquila). Questa riserva ha un'estensione di circa 110 ettari e nelle cui viscere nasconde un ambiente di straordinaria e affascinante bellezza. Questa area presenta marcati fenomeni carsici superficiali, che da sempre hanno richiamato l'nteresse della comunità scientifica. Per tale motivo, nel 1992, la regione Abruzzo, ha istituito primo caso in Italia, una Riserva naturale speciale per la tutela e la valorizzazione di un ambiente carsico. La foto è riferita ad una delle due grotte, nello specifico "Grotta del Cervo", l'altra si chiama "Grotta dell'Ovito" e sono entrambe visitabili con guida speleologica su prenotaione (obbligatoria). La Grotta del Cervo è stata scoperta nel 1984, e di una strardinaria bellezza. L'ingresso e piuttosto angusto, immette in un'ampia galleria lunga circa 400 metri, sono presenti concrezioni candide varie in struttura e forma. La grotta riveste particolare importanza in quanto al suo interno sono state trovate le ossa preistoriche di un cervo (da qui il nome) e di alcune monete romane del IV-V sec. d.C. . Per cause alluvionali o in occasione del terremoto che colpì nel 1456 la zona, l'apertura si ostruì, tornando alla luce solo nel 1984. La Grotta dell'Ovito (che spero di visitare prossimamente) rappresenta l'imghiottitoio naturale che raccoglie le acque del bacino omonimo restituendole dopo circa 1300 metri nella cosìdetta risorgenza della "Vena Cionca" sotto il piccolo paese di Pietrasecca.
