Orti del Parnaso, Firenze ... marzo 2022 ... Un elegante cancello ed una splendida terrazza affacciata sopra i tetti cittadini accolgono il visitatore che dalla trafficatissima Via Trento accede agli Orti del Parnaso, la parte più alta e meno nota del celeberrimo Giardino dell'Orticultura; sebbene ad una quota più bassa rispetto al Forte Belvedere o al Piazzale Michelangelo, la vista completa sui monumenti fiorentini e sul vicino Tepidario di Giacomo Roster completamente illuminato è davvero gratificante. Il nome del luogo deriva dalla bizzarra scultura presente all'interno dell'area verde: una fontana a forma di serpente o secondo altri di drago, che si snoda lungo la scalinata che conduce al Tepidarium. La statua, completata nel 1990 su progetto di Marco Dezzi Bardeschi, fa riferimento al mito di Pitone, il mostruoso serpente figlio di Gea ed impastato col fango del Diluvio, che con le sue spire poteva avvolgere sette volte la città di Delfi e capace col suo alito pestilenziale di far seccare tutte le piante con cui entrava in contatto: fu il dio Apollo a ucciderlo proprio sul monte Parnaso, nei pressi dell'Oracolo di Delfi ...
