Phalangium -Phalangium opilio sent on July 12, 2022 (9:15) by Nicolò Cavallaro. 13 comments, 1150 views.

, hand held. Etna, Italy.

Stacking a mano libera + Raynox DCR-250. Impressive the vision of the subject with this reproduction ratio.
Very good at having carried out this fs freehand.

Freehand stacking is really difficult, but if it succeeds the satisfaction is so much :-)
Thanks to you and Daniele for the passage.

Ah finally one who does focus stacking freehand!
The result does not look bad even if the pixels of the image are not many to evaluate it, in any case congratulations!

Technique for 'mentally ill' :-D Perhaps this is not a common practice. Seriously, I still have to practice, it is not at all simple even when you are lucky enough to find a subject in Nature that stands still for the necessary time. But the beauty is also this :-)
As for this shot I cut out because in my intentions there was to make it come to fire from the front legs to the back of the body ... serious mistake because the legs of this spider are very long and in fact 54 shots were not enough. The fusion was not at all satisfactory in the peripheral part of the photo so I decided to keep the central area where the stacking produced a decent result.
Next time I will try with a less pushed magnification that should facilitate me a little, of course ... it also depends on the size of the subject.
Thanks for the ride ;-)

Just out of curiosity, did you do it with focus bracketing in the car or do you go totally in manual like myself? :-)

No bracketing in the car, the dear old tecinca old style :-)
Even if you want to do bracketing in the car (I think it can be very useful in certain situations, but here you surely know more than me) I could not use it because the macro lens I own (7Artisans 60mm) is totally manual ;-)

Well then double congratulations, bravo!
"Even if you want to do the bracketing in the car (I think it can be very useful in certain situations, but here you certainly know more than me)"
Actually I don't know much, I tried it just a couple of times a few years ago with the Olympus 60mm but honestly it does not satisfy me in execution but even less in the assembly because varying the focus of the lens also varies the magnification so the difference between the first shot and the last is remarkable, so the drop in quality of the final image is inevitable because those with lower magnification undergo an interpolation to align with those with the greater magnification ...
I hope I was clear but anyway to summarize I tell you to continue so that you go better! ;-)

No no, you were very clear. In the past I had the Olympus 60mm macro, but I never thought of using automatic bracketing, also because I was not yet accustomed to macro as I am doing it now.
What you said translates into a big problem that basically makes the function practically useless, at least for those who make macro push like you.
Another doubt about automatic bracketing is whether the focusing deviation between one shot and another, even set to a minimum, is sufficient on such pushed magnification scales. I have no idea, you should try... but we go back to the problem that you rightly raised: if varying the AF point also varies the magnification the speech is already closed at the start :-)
Thanks for the valuable advice!

"Another doubt about automatic bracketing is whether the focus deviation between shots, even set to a minimum, is sufficient on such high magnification scales."
I tried it with the 60mm+raynox250 and the deviation was more than enough to enlarge again.
I can tell you that I know on FB an American photographer who adds to the 60mm the tubes, the 2x multiplier, the raynox505 and other various "accrocchi", reaching up to 10:1 and the deviations seem sufficient and the photos are acceptable at least as regards the publication on FB because I fear that at full resolution the quality suffers a lot!
Imagine, it's a pleasure!

Beautiful!
What magnification ratio did you achieve?
Why did you choose the 7Artisan instead of one of the original macros with AF?
Greetings

Thanks again to all :-)[
QUOTE] what magnification ratio have you reached?[ /QUOTE] I
don't know, also because I had mounted the Raynox.
The latter is 8 diopters so I think it equals a 3x.
