La Chevrolet Bel Air nacque come variante della Chevrolet modello De Luxe poi... nel 1953 divenne un modello a se stante. Fu costruita sia negli Stati Uniti che in Canada dal 1950 al 1975 in 7 differenti Serie... mentre un'ottava Serie fu costruita solo in Canada fino al 1981. Era disponibile nelle versioni Berlina... come questa nella fotografia... Coupé, Familiare, Cabriolet e pure in versione Hard Top. Quella qui raffigurata è una versione Berlina della IV Serie costruita nel biennio 1959-60. Era disponibile con tre differenti motorizzazioni: un 6 cilindri in linea di 3900 cm3 e due motori V8 rispettivamente di 4600 cm3 e 5700 cm3: quest'ultimo erogante una potenza massima di 335 cavalli. Al momento dell'acquisto si poteva scegliere fra tre tipi di cambio di cui due manuali... uno a tre e l'altro a quattro rapporti... più la retromarcia... ed uno automatico modello Powerglide con due marce avanti più la retromarcia. Si noti l'aeroplano stilizzato sulla portiera posteriore. Spesso... all'epoca della costruzione di simili vetture... negli Stati Uniti... venivano posti degli abbellimenti di tipo aeronautico per omaggiare l'aviazione.
