Su alcuni vecchi pioppi,posti in prossimità delle vasche di allevamento , nelle fredde e brevi giornate novembrine al calar del sole i cormorani, a centinaia, si ritrovano rumorosamente sui soliti rami spogli, inesorabilmente imbiancati e bruciati dalle loro deiezioni. Sono un misto di scienza e di poesia, perfetti nella loro fisicità, e pieni di "umanità" quando si guardano l'un l'altro, e comunicano tra di loro, raccontandosi delle fatiche e dei pericoli scampati nella giornata giorno appena trascorsa. Ammirando quegli stormi d'uccelli neri, tra le rossastre nubi, mentre la luce si fa sempre più fioca e l'aria del crepuscolo sempre più pungente, d'un tratto sembrano risuonare le strofe del Carducci, imparate tra i banchi di scuola che ora, come d'incanto, prendono forma proprio nel giorno di San Martino.
