With 1/2 second of exposure, you can forget about taking a decent shot. Either you buy a tripod with cable to take shots or you use a makeshift support. With the tripod you can lower the ISO and you do not have a grainy photo (with the tripod, always turn off the stabilizer!). At 1/20 of a second, keeping your breath while shooting (in self-timer) you can still be able to take a still photo. Take 3-5 photos and keep the best ;-)
