Il modello M3 1° Serie (M3 E30) venne prodotto dalla BMW… Bayerische Motoren Welke (Fabbrica Bavarese di Motori)… azienda fondata nel 1917… a partire dal 1985 nelle versioni Cabriolet e principalmente Coupé e poi pure in versione Berlina a 4 porte dal 1989 e si protrasse fino al 1992: la Serie M3 si poteva definire la versione sportiva delle BMW Serie 3. La prima motorizzazione adottata fu un'elaborazione maggiorata di quella di 2 Litri utilizzata nel Campionato di Formula 2 cioè un motore con 4 cilindri in linea di 2302 cm3 con 4 valvole per cilindro erogante da 195 e fino 215 cavalli di potenza massima che portavano la vettura (la versione Coupé) fino a sfiorare i 240 chilometri di velocità massima. Poi, nel 1989, la cilindrata crebbe a 2467 cm3 erogando così 238 cavalli di potenza e la velocità arrivò vicina ai 250 chilometri orari. Dal 1993 al 1999 venne prodotta la 2° Serie (M3 E36) dove il motore adottato era un 6 cilindri in linea di 2990 cm3 erogante 286 cavalli di potenza e 250 chilometri di velocità massima per poi passare a 3201 cm3 e 321 cavalli nel 1995. La vettura che si vede in fotografia appartiene a questa 2° Serie e fu fotografata durante la 3° Manches della Bologna Raticosa 2021, 33° Edizione, manifestazione destinata alle auto d'epoca. Negli anni seguenti verranno poi prodotte altre Serie di BMW M3 ma questo… all'occorrenza… verrà raccontato in altre didascalie.
