La Fiat 501 venne costruita dal 1919 al 1925 nelle versioni Berlina, Torpedo. Spyder e Landò e rappresentò l'alternativa italiana all'invasione europea dell'americana Ford. Negli anni 1921-26 furono prodotte pure alcune versioni sportive denominate 501 S e 501 SS. Erano tutte dotate di un motore con 4 cilindri in linea di 1460 cm3 che erogava 23 cavalli di potenza per 70 chilometri orari di velocità massima nelle versioni normali, 26,5 cavalli nella versione S (100 Km/h) e circa 30 nella versione SS: quest'ultima oltrepassava i 120 chilometri orari di velocità massima ed è quella visibile in questa fotografia che fu scattata notte tempo con l'ausilio di un lampeggiatore Nikon SB-800 durante il transito della 1° Tappa della 1000 Miglia Rievocativa Edizione 2011. Furono costruite pure delle 501 Tipo Corsa dove il motore era stato portato a 1486 cm3 e dotato di doppio albero a cammes in testa... erogando così 55 cavalli di potenza massima.
