La basilica di San Zeno, conosciuta anche con il nome di chiesa di San Zeno Maggiore o chiesa di San Zenone, è un importante luogo di culto cattolico che sorge nel cuore del quartiere di San Zeno a Verona; si tratta di uno dei capolavori del romanico in Italia. L'attuale chiesa venne realizzata sul luogo ove almeno altri cinque edifici religiosi erano stati edificati in precedenza. Sembra che la sua origine sia da ricercarsi in una chiesa edificata sulla tomba di San Zeno, morto tra il 372 e il 380. L'edificio venne comunque riedificato all'inizio del IX secolo per volere del vescovo Ratoldo e del re d'Italia Pipino che giudicarono sconveniente che il corpo del santo patrono riposasse in una povera chiesa. La tradizione vuole che l'arcidiacono Pacifico contribuì alla fabbrica; la consacrazione avvenne l'8 dicembre 806 mentre il 21 maggio dell'anno successivo il corpo di san Zeno fu traslato nella cripta
