Messier 51 è una magnifica galassia a spirale nella costellazione dei Cani da Caccia. Il rigonfiamento alla fine di uno dei suoi bracci è un'altra galassia con la quale interagisce. Distante da noi circa 31 milioni di al., è un oggetto notevole e ottimo esempio di spirale. Nei suoi bracci sono presenti vaste zone di Idrogeno e di formazione stellare.
