Ricordo che eravamo arrivati nel Borneo malese a metà pomeriggio, dopo un passaggio da Singapore, e subito usciti dall'aeroporto il cielo iniziava a rannuvolarsi. Il tasso di umidità era ovviamente molto elevato, e c'è stato solo il tempo di arrivare nel nostro alloggio prima di una pioggia fragorosa: niente faceva pensare che potesse cessare a breve e mi rassegnavo già a una serata confinato in stanza. Inizio a sistemare le mie cose senza pensarci più... saranno passati più o meno tre quarti d'ora quando le tende delle finestre iniziano a diventare luminose. Le scosto e vedo che la pioggia sta finendo, lasciando il posto a una luce arancione intensissima che colora tutto. "Presto, usciamo!" e in un attimo scendiamo in strada lungo il fiume di questa città ancora sconosciuta. Da lì in avanti il cielo cambierà di colore più volte, arancione poi rosso intenso, per diventare infine come in questa foto appena prima di sera. Un buon inizio di viaggio in questa terra.
