La Normandia è famosa, oltre che per i paesaggi, le spiagge ed il mare stupendi, anche per esser stata la zona prescelta per lo sbarco alleato che rappresentò l'inizio dell'invasione che avrebbe determinato poi la sconfitta del nazismo in Germania. A Colleville Sur Mer si trova Omaha Beach , una delle 5 spiagge dello sbarco, nella quale gli Alleati subirono le maggiori perdite Nel territorio di questa piccola stazione balneare si trova il cimitero americano ( considerato a tutti gli effetti territorio americano ) nel quale han trovato sepoltura 9387 soldati. Al suo interno son stati anche allestiti un museo ed un memorial al centro del quale si erge la statua bronzea ritratta in questa fotografia. Altri scatti del cimitero son visibili, per chi volesse, nella cartella Normandia e Bretagna 2015.
