Cascata delle Marmore dal Belvedere Inferiore.La Cascata delle Marmore è considerata una delle più alte d'Europa: il dislivello complessivo tra la cima e la base è di 165 metri, suddiviso in tre salti che le donano lo spettacolare aspetto attuale. La Cascata è formata dal fiume Velino, che si getta nel fiume Nera fluendo dal vicino lago di Piediluco. Il nome Marmore deriva dai peculiari sali di carbonato di calcio che si sedimentano sulle rocce della montagna, il cui riflesso della luce del sole li fa assomigliare a cristalli di marmo bianco. Marmore è anche il nome del vicino paese medievale, uno dei borghi più belli della Valnerina assieme a Piediluco e Arrone. All rights reserved.
