La nettarinia di Palestina (Cinnyrris osea) è un piccolo passeriforme diffuso in Medio Oriente . Questo splendido uccello , non facile da fotografare , rappresenta un ottimo soggetto non solo per i suoi colori ma soprattutto per il significato simbolico che ha assunto negli ultimi anni . Khaled Jarrar è un artista e fotografo palestinese di Jenin, città della Cisgiordania vicino a Ramallah, che ha progettato un timbro con questo piccolo uccello simile a un colibrì, un fiore di gelsomino e una scritta in arabo e inglese «Stato di Palestina» da stampare sui passaporti. Il timbro non ha alcun valore politico e legale (come qualsiasi timbro che si può stampare sul proprio passaporto in molte parti del mondo, ad esempio a Ushuaia ) ma un grande valore simbolico. Non si tratta solo di una provocazione ma, ha spiegato l'artista, «dell'affermazione di esistenza verso chi (Israele) vuol negare i nostri diritti e persino la nostra esistenza come popolo». Questa nettarinia infatti si trova in Palestina, Israele e in poche altre zone del Medio Oriente: negli anni 60 era stato utilizzato anche dagli israeliani in un loro francobollo. Speriamo che questo piccolo uccellino ed il simbolo che esso rapprenta aiuti ad unire sotto un'unica identità 2 popoli in guerra da sempre.
