, 1/3200 f/8.0, ISO 500, tripod. Oasi Laguna Orbetello, Italy.

So close to Riva Orbetello The sea bass is the very first suspect. Much more difficult than a greenhouse. Nothing else can be.

Paul, I peach at sea from the age of 10 years and now I have 66. By boat and by the shore. I exclude that we can deal with greenhouse or sea bass or Lecce, knowing that it would be logical to associate them with predations in the shallow waters of Orbetello. But what comes out of the water, from the elongated body and larger than the eggonet, is not bindable to any of these. I do not want to be a visionary, but I have always thought more of a torpedo or a mega eel or mega Cephalopode. Or, by the way, I just don't even know what to do. Thanks for the surgery. Greetings, Giorgio.

Hello Giorgio,
Surely you who were on the spot you saw what I from the picture I can not see. I struggle to imagine what beyond what I said.
I also (71 years) I've always fished. 21 Fishing trips in ocean, 3 Graciosa and 18 to Cabo Verde (Sal, Boavista, Sao Nicolau, Sao Vicente, Maio) and at least 120 exits between Port Barricata and Elba. We have 2 passions in common :-D

Can I interfere?
from the photo, making a proportion between the eggonet and the mysterious object you get that the "monster" must be well longer than a metre...
difficult that in shallow waters of Laguna can live a cephalus or a bass of that size... it would be a record.
also the height of the water (in proportion to the legs of the bird about twenty inches?) lays for a muddy and elongated bottom fish.
If it were a big carp, in fact, the back and the fin would emerge in a much more obvious way.
and the catfish hardly become so big...
looking down in the area under the beak of the egse you can see a slight marbling that I could hazard is typical of the catfish.
