Vi siete mai chiesti come mai si trovano tutte queste statue di lupe a Siena? Come sappiamo la lupa è il simbolo di Roma, la sua fondazione si lega al mito della lupa romana e i gemelli Romolo e Remo. Sullo stesso mito, però, si intrecciano anche le origini (romane) di Siena. La leggenda vuole che i figli di Remo, Senio e Aschio, dopo la morte del padre, per paura di essere uccisi, decisero di fuggire dalla città in sella ad un cavallo nero e ad uno bianco (i colori della Balzana, lo stemma di Siena). Portarono con sé la statua della lupa capitolina come segno di indennizzo per la morte del padre. I cavalli, fatti comparire dagli dei che proteggevano i due fratelli, li condussero a nord di Roma. Arrivati nelle colline toscane, Senio fondò Siena (dal latino Sena) e Aschio il borgo di Asciano. Secondo questa leggenda, poiché il fondatore di Siena era un romano si poteva considerare Siena come la legittima erede di Roma. La lupa capitolina quindi, simbolo del glorioso passato di Roma, diventò nel Medioevo il simbolo di Siena, assurta quasi a nuova Roma. Commenti, consigli e critiche sempre molto graditi. Grazie.
