Marco Tullio Cicerone (Arpino 3 gennaio 106 a.C. - Formia 7 dicembre 43 a. C.) Villaggi intorno,successivamente fusi tra loro,diedero origine ad un unico centro,quello che poi sarebbe diventata Capua.Osci ed Etruschi si prodigarono non poco per ammodernarla e svilupparla. Fino a quando orde di vandali prima e saraceni dopo furono altrettanto attenti nel distruggerla. Era l' 841 a.C. Bisogna attendere tra miserie,splendori,ricchezze e carestie il passaggio di tale Simone figlio di Giovanni,diventato poi famoso con il nome di S.Pietro, che di passaggio,nell'andare da Antiochia a Roma,decise di consacrare Prisco a primo Vescovo di Capua, ed affidargli la comunità,affinchè ne potesse rinascere una città morigerata e timorata di Dio.Prisco,poi fu martirizzato nel 64 d.C.(forse lo stesso anno in cui sul colle Vaticano,che allora essendo fuori dalle mura di Roma,non era compreso nei famosi 7, veniva crocifisso a testa in giù,come da sua richiesta, Il suo sponsor,Simone,intanto diventato Pietro,Vescovo di Roma) facendone la premessa per santificarli poi. Solo i più forti sopravvivevano,certo,fino a quando non incontravano un altro più forte di loro. Spartaco ebbe l'uzzolo di impadronirsi, più che delle armi,di attrezzi rubati nelle cucine e nelle stalle,convinse (e non ci voleva troppo) circa 200 schiavi (gladiatori) a fuggire. Solo 78 vi riuscirono . Una sessantina, lo seguirono fino alle falde del Vesuvio. Affrontato da una pattuglia raccogliticcia dell'esercito romano,ebbe gioco facile a sconfiggerla. Si arricchì così, di armi e cavalli. Cominciò il sacco e la devastazione dei territori campani. A quest'orda di disperati,si associò di tutto,contadini,pastori,altri schiavi, cafoni di ogni genere( il termine “cafone” non era ancora nato,fu coniato circa tre secoli dopo,in “onore” di un caporale dell'esercito di Cesare,particolarmente volgare e ruvido di nome Cafo) cominciò a prendere le sembianze di un esercito. I romani si apprestarono a formare,quello che oggi diremmo un cordone sanitario,intorno al teatro delle operazioni della banda di Spartaco,ma quest'ultimo ebbe la meglio,rompendo L'accerchiamento. Più a sud, si aggiunsero altri uomini,e nel 73-72 a.C. l'esercito di Spartaco divenne davvero temibile. Forte di un'organico di oltre 100.000 uomini,Spartaco cominciò la risalita dello stivale. Il suo scopo era quello di oltrepassare le Alpi, liberando poi i suoi uomini dai vincoli,e portarsi successivamente nelle sue terre. Si sa,un esercito fatto non da soldati,ma da gente di quella risma,con l'assaggio della vittoria,quindi con l'incasso del bottino di guerra,è piuttosto difficile da dirigere. Si diedero, un po' come diremmo oggi alla pazza gioia. Di battaglia in battaglia,questa associazione di disperati, che si erano dati un tono da vero esercito,ripiegò verso Roma.
