La Moldava è il fiume di Praga ma anche il fiume più lungo della Repubblica Ceca: nasce nella selva boema e confluisce nel fiume Elba dopo aver attraversato importanti città come Český Krumlov e Budějovice. A Praga il fiume scorre sotto uno dei simboli nazionali, lo storico Ponte Carlo costruito nel Trecento e oggi affollatissimo a tutte le ore del giorno. Il compositore ceco Bedrich Smetana dedicò al fiume Moldava un poema sinfonico che ha per titolo il nome del fiume ed è insieme una vivida descrizione dell'incedere dell'acqua, un inno alla natura e una dichiarazione d'amore alla patria. Numerosi sono gli operatori turistici che offrono crociere sulla Moldava, di una o più ore, anche con cena o accompagnamento musicale jazz. È un'esperienza affascinante da fare perché questi tour vi consentono di ammirare la capitale da una prospettiva diversa e di abbandonarvi alla magia del fiume. Ho passato un Capodanno a Praga, facendo una di queste crociere, e la consiglio a chiunque voglia vedere uno degli spettacoli più belli. A mezzanotte, tutti i battelli da crociera fanno suonare le loro sirene, esplodono i fuochi pirotecnici e il cielo si accende di cento, mille colori e tutta la città si riempie di migliaia di gente che ammirano lo spettacolo e brindano all'aperto. Anche fuori Praga è possibile partecipare a tour in battello sul fiume, mentre i cicloturisti possono ammirare la Moldava percorrendo una lunga pista ciclabile di 400 km, quasi interamente lungo il fiume, su un facile terreno perlopiù pianeggiante o in discesa.
