La strada che da Hebron porta a Gerusalemme è un susseguirsi di insediamenti e di un muro. Il Muro. Una presenza asfissiante che "percorre" per oltre 700 chilometri la Cisgiordania. Betlemme, la città della “natività”, è la più colpita. Trentamila persone "murate". Un senso di soffocamento che ti attanaglia appena varcato il check-point israeliano che separa Betlemme dalla vicina Gerusalemme (dieci chilometri di distanza). Il muro è alto 6 metri, neanche quello di Berlino si era elevato così tanto. Su una parte del muro due enormi murales mostrano il presidente degli Stati Uniti Donald Trump. In uno dei due, Trump abbraccia e bacia una vera e propria torre di guardia dell'esercito israeliano incorporata all'interno del muro. Per la cristianità, Betlemme è il luogo della speranza, incarnatasi nel Cristo. Per i palestinesi è il simbolo di una sofferenza che prende corpo negli sguardi tristi dei bambini, che bussa ai vetri dell'auto consolare con la disperazione di venditori ambulanti che chiedono qualcosa per sfamare i loro figli (una media di sei a famiglia Betlemme è meta dei pellegrini, ma il turismo non basta a ridar vita alla città, che pure con il Giubileo del Duemila aveva sperato di diventare una meta stabile, stanziale, pronta ad accogliere migliaia di pellegrini negli hotel che per quello storico evento erano stati costruiti. Ma l'"Intifada dei kamikaze" ha spazzato via questa speranza e Israele ha fatto il resto, estendendo la Barriera di sicurezza (il Muro dell'apartheid per i palestinesi) ben oltre i confini del '67. Ciò che colpisce di più, a Betlemme come a Hebron, è la sofferenza dei più deboli e indifesi: i bambini. Privati di tutto. Anche della loro scuola. E' quello che accade nel deserto d'Israele, nella "Scuola di gomme" – realizzato con muri rafforzati da 2200 pneumatici – nella quale studiano e si divertono 174 bambini. La "Scuola di gomme" è gestita da una Ong italiana, "Vento di Terra", grazie anche al finanziamento della Cooperazione italiana, della Cei e dell'Unione Europea. Quello che più colpisce è che non c'è più il seme della speranza in questa gente, perché come ci ha detto la nostra guida:” diritto e giustizia sono beni sempre più introvabili in Terrasanta.” La foto è stata scattata con l'obiettivo Zuiko 14-150 a 14mm.
