Si tratta di un Fiat 1100 508C leggermente adattato per il mercato francese. Presentato al Salone di Parigi nel mese di ottobre 1937, la Simca 8 verrà poi prodotta nelle fabbriche Simca-Fiat di Nanterre sotto licenza Fiat. La produzione ha iniziato dall'aprile del 1938 fino a fine 1951 con c.c. 113.000 unità prodotte. Le porte della berlina si aprono in opposizione (porte antagonistiche) . La distribuzione, come in molti motori Fiat, ha valvole sovrapposte.
