I Battenti dei Riti Settennali di Guardia Sanframondi, piccolo borgo del beneventano. Ogni 7 anni nella Processione Generale domenicale circa 1000 battenti si uniscono agli altri partecipanti. Indossati il saio e cappuccio bianco, si battono il petto sinistro a sangue con una spugna di sughero rivestita di 33 chiodi. Nell'altra mano stringono un crocefisso e l'immagine sacra della Vergine Assunta alla quale sono devoti. Dietro il corteo dei Battenti, i Flagellanti e i rappresentati dei Misteri ( una sorta di circa 100 quadri viventi interpretati da figuranti che rappresentano episodi del Nuovo e Vecchio Testamento) compongono la lunga processione che impegna un totale di circa 4000 partecipanti. E' il più grande atto di penitenza del mondo occidentale. Un rituale collettivo identitario di un popolo raccolto nella cieca devozione verso la Vergine Assunta.
