Arroccato a 2.042 m di altitudine, nel cuore del Parco Naturale Regionale del Queyras, il villaggio di montagna di Saint-Véran, classificato tra i più bei villaggi di Francia, è anche il comune più alto d'Europa. Situato in una splendida cornice naturale, questo splendido borgo ha conservato dal suo passato, un notevole patrimonio architettonico, testimone della vita rurale di un tempo. Pittoreschi chalet a fusti (fusto è la parte superiore di uno chalet, costituito da tronchi accatastati, per l'essiccazione e la conservazione di colture di foraggio in inverno), la chiesa classificata monumento storico, e vecchie case con tetti ricoperti di scandole di larice o di ardesia si rivelano percorrendo le varie frazioni di Saint-Véran. Durante tutto il cammino, scopriamo anche affascinanti fontane in legno, cappelle, meridiane, crocifissi, forni comuni nonché una vecchia pompa antincendio.
