Dove ora sorge l'abbazia, c'era una piccola chiesa che faceva parte delle proprietà di Pietro Tanzi, nobile milanese. Nel 1404, il Tanzi la fece restaurare e con l'occasione chiese al priore di Santa Maria della Frigionaia di Lucca, di inviare un po' di canonici lateranensi per officiare le funzioni religiose. Alla sua morte, avvenuta nel 1405, il Tanzi lasciò tutti i suoi beni alla chiesetta, purché dipendesse dalla Frigionaia e che vi risiedessero almeno sei canonici. Il 27 agosto 1406 venne eletto il primo priore della congregazione dei canonici del Casoretto. La costruzione della chiesa di Santa Maria Bianca della Misericordia, più nota come Abbazia del Casoretto (nome del quartiere milanese), iniziò dopo il 1472, grazie a lasciti e donazioni. La chiesa fu realizzata dai Solari e in particolare da Guiniforte Solari. Negli anni 1479-1480 furono decorate le cappelle, e il campanile fu terminato il 4 giugno del 1490. Durante la dominazione degli Sforza, la Chiesa conobbe l'epoca di massimo splendore: donazioni degli stessi Sforza e di altri nobili milanesi, consentirono perfino la costruzione di una fornitissima biblioteca, epoca sforzesca conobbe la massima prosperità: una serie di lasciti consentì anche la costituzione di una fornita biblioteca e di mantenervi trenta canonici, scelti per censo e cultura; nel 1566 ottenne il titolo di abbazia. Nella seconda metà del Cinquecento , la Chiesa subì molte modifiche su progetto di Pellegrino Tibaldi e vi soggiornò san Carlo Borromeo. Agli inizi del XX secolo, l'Abbazia divenne chiesa parrocchiale. Nel 1927, l'Annoni restaurò la facciata, ridandole l'impianto quattrocentesco. Nel 1943, fu realizzato il nuovo coretto, e infine, dal 1958 al 1960 furono eseguiti ulteriori e definitivi restauri. Commenti, consigli e critiche sempre super graditi. Grazie.
