L'Astico ha scavato la roccia, questo è lo sbocco delle cosiddette "Gole del Sitòn". Anticamente, non tanto poi, le "gole" erano una trappola per i tronchi che, in primavera, con le morbide del torrente dopo le piene, venivano trasportati "gratuitamente" a valle. Indispensabili per le necessità della "Repubblica di Venezia" , abeti e larici precedentemente preparati negli altipiani di Tonezza ed Asiago, venivano calati a valle durante l'inverno facendoli scivolare sui canaloni ghiacciati, o trascinati in autunno dai cavalli o muli, fino alle sponde. Ivi accatastati in grandi cumuli, cataste , in attesa della stagione delle piogge. Squadre di uomini robusti seguivano i tronchi fluitanti a valle, sia per impedire inopportune "rapine" (spiaggiamenti naturali o provocati erano occasioni ghiotte per impadronirsene) , sia perché in alcuni punti, fra cui queste "gole", i tronchi si incastravano fra le pareti rocciose, creando un tappo che impediva il proseguire della fluitazione, e causava dannose esondazioni. In questi punti perciò bisognava saper districare i tronchi e liberare il flusso, lavoro indispensabile e pericoloso; spesso capitava che qualcuno ci lasciasse la vita, stritolato dai legnami o trascinato dalle acque impetuose. Ora meta di turismo e tuffi pericolosi, come cambiano i tempi!
