Hemaris fuciformis è una falena della famiglia Sfingidi, composta, a differenza di questa specie, da farfalle principalmente ad abitudini notturne. Le Sfingi sono caratterizzate dal corpo tozzo e dalle ali strette e robuste che permettono loro di essere grandi volatrici, capaci di raggiungere anche notevoli velocità; si nutrono librandosi in volo sui fiori senza posarsi, come colibrì. Alcune specie di Sfingidi sono migratrici e, nelle stagioni più aride, si spostano dalle regioni calde verso nord (specialmente dal Nord Africa verso l'Europa). H. fuciformis vive preferibilmente in radure boschive, dove si sposta a grande velocità in ricerca di nettare durante le ore più assolate del giorno. A causa del forte battito delle ali, potrebbe essere scambiata per un grosso imenottero. Ha due generazioni in maggio-luglio ed in agosto, di cui la seconda più scarsa.
