Quell'arnese in legno veniva usato per sgranare il mais,che veniva raccolto nei secchi,mentre il torsolo veniva usato per alimentare il camino.Ci si sedeva sopra,a cavalcioni,e si sgranava la pannocchia in quella tacca che qui si intravede appena.Mi ricordo mio nonno che lo usava,d'inverno,quando c'era calma nei campi,per sgranare il mais,visto che non tutti avevano la macchina sgranatrice.Per farmi giocare,qualche volta dava anche a me delle pannocchie da sgranare,non sempre con esiti efficaci. C'è da dire,che molti di questi sgranatoi,furono buttati o finiti bruciati,perchè qualcuno prese la macchina,che magari veniva usata da tutte le famiglie della cascina,senza problemi,tanto,una volta finito il lavoro si faceva una bella bicchierata e tutti a posto.Oppure,una volta morti gli anziani,i figli li eliminarono,con piacere,in certi casi,visto che ricordava loro parecchio lavoro su di essi fin da bambini.
