Il 27 agosto del 1954 al largo dell'abbazia di San Fruttuoso a 17 Mt. di profondità è stata immersa la statua del Cristo degli Abissi, una statua di bronzo, alta due metri e mezzo, rappresentante un Cristo con il viso e le mani tese verso il cielo; La statua venne calata in mare sotto proposta di Duilio Marcante, un personaggio di fama ed importanza per la subacquea italiana, che dopo aver perso un amico(Dario Gonzatti) durante una immersione, volle il Cristo in ricordo di tutti i morti in mare. La scultura alta 2,50 mt., pesa 260 kg. e poggia su un grande basamento di cemento 90 tonnellate.
