Conosce Torino? Ecco una città secondo il mio cuore. Anzi la sola. Tranquilla, quasi solenne. Terra classica per gli occhi e per i piedi (grazie a una pavimentazione magnifica e ad un colore tra il giallo e l'ocra che fonde armonicamente tutte le cose). Un soffio di buon settecento: Palazzi di quelli che parlano al cuore; non fortezze stile Rinascimento! E poi: scorger le Alpi dal centro della cìttà! Queste lunghe strade che sembrano condurre in linea retta verso le auguste cime nevose. Aria serena, limpida in modo sublime. Non avrei mai creduto che una città, grazie alla luce, potesse diventare cosi bella. A cinquecento passi da me il palazzo Carignano, mio grandioso vis-a-vis (costruito nel 1670). Dirimpetto a questo, il Teatro Carignano, dove si dà in modo degnissimo la Carmen. Si può camminare per mezze ore di seguito sotto alti portici. Qui tutto è costruito con liberalità ed ampiezza, specialmente le piazze, così anche nel cuore della città si ha un senso superbo di libertà...
