Estinto in natura ad inizio 1900 a causa della caccia selvaggia il black wildbeest o gnu nero é stato reintrodotto usando animali provenienti da zoo o allevamenti.oggi é tornato a popolare in piccoli numeri il suo ambiente originario,il karoo.un tempo grandi mandrie si muovevano nelle aride piane durante le piogge e tornavano sugli altipiani in stagione secca. Oggi ci sono pochi ambienti ancora adatti a questa necessaria migrazione.comunque la popolazione é in ripresa.soggetto molto schivo che scappa subito e si tiene a distanza.connochaetes gnou,scatto dall auto.karoo ,sudafrica.
