E' un'orchidea molto diffusa nel Parco del Curone (Lecco), che in primavera spicca elegante e slanciata nei prati terrazzati ben esposti e nelle radure boschive soleggiate, su terreni calcarei. E' alta 20-45 cm, ha un rizoma breve con numerose radici carnose e fusti eretti con scaglie alla base, fogliosi fino all'infiorescenza. Le foglie sono numerose, alterne, quasi erette, lunghe e lanceolate. All'apice, il fusto porta un'infiorescenza a spiga con numerosi fiori bianchi, che in genere non si aprono completamente. Il labello è corto, concavo con lobi laterali triangolari, seminascosto dai tepali esterni più lunghi ed appuntiti, con una piccola macchia aranciata alla fauce. Dal momento che spesso non viene riconosciuta come orchidea e viene raccolta in mazzetti, ricordiamo che è una specie assolutamente vietata. Il frutto è una capsula deiscente contenente numerosissimi semi. Particolarità: ?Il nome del genere Cephalanthera deriva dal greco: "kefale" che significa "testa" e sta ad indicare la forma del fiore che è piuttosto arrotondata, come una testa. Il nome della specie longifolia si riferisce alle lunghe foglie della pianta. ?I fiori del genere Cephalanthera sono privi di nettare e vengono impollinati da imenotteri che scambiano le creste gialle presenti sul labello per stami ricchi di polline. La riproduzione avviene sia per via sessuata (tramite gli insetti), sia per via vegetativa attraverso i rizomi che emettono gemme in grado di generare nuovi individui. E' piuttosto diffusa anche l'autofecondazione (autogamia) soprattutto in Cephalanthera damasonium. Protezione rigorosa
