Quel pomeriggio stavamo percerrondo il fiume in barca e ci stavamo dirigendo nel luogo in cui alla mattina avevamo avvistato la femmina di giaguaro, foto presente in questa galleria con il titolo "Lady Pantanal". L'aria era tranquilla, c'era poco movimento e il sole picchiava forte. Ad un tratto siamo stati affiancati da una barca con a bordo un tizio locale che ci disse che qualche km più indietro aveva visto un giaguaro, prima attraversare il fiume e poi sulla spiaggia. Abbiamo fatto una rapida inversione e a tutto gas ci siamo portati circa sul luogo dell'avvistamento. Purtroppo al nostro arrivo il giaguaro non c'era già più. Pattugliammo così la zona avanti e indietro con la speranza di vederlo ricomparire, ma niente. Quando ben decidemmo di accellerare per tornare dove avevamo incontrato il tizio e continuare la perlustrazione della zona, mi e caduto l'occhio su dei segni in una piccola spiaggetta, mi sono rivolto al nostro barcarolo chiedendo se era possibile tornare indietro ed avvicinarsi alla spiaggia per guardare meglio. Sulla sabbia infatti erano presenti delle orme molto grandi di felino, non c'erano dubbi che il giaguaro fosse passato di la e non molto tempo prima del nostro arrivo. Così lentamente continuammo lungo il fiume e a poche centinaia di metri dopo lo vidi in cima alla sponda. E' stato uno degli esemplari che ho avvistato per primo e uno dei più soddisfacenti per aver rinvenuto prima le tracce. Settembre 2014
