Sugli ultimi due pilastri, secondo la tradizione, si trovano addossate due antenne già sul carroccio senese alla battaglia di Montaperti nel 1260.[24] Data la loro importante lunghezza, oltre i 16 metri, sembrano essere stati, più verosimilmente, i costituenti di un solo pennone di albero di una nave del XVI secolo. Forse addirittura di una imbarcazione ottomanna o cristiana presente nella famosa Battaglia di Lepanto del 7 ottobre 1571.
