« A San Giovanni Rotondo la chiesa sboccia dalla pietra della montagna, di pietra saranno muro, sagrato, archi di sostegno, la Grande Croce » (Renzo Piano) Di ritorno da una breve vacanza nel Gargano, non potevo non fermarmi alla Chiesa di Padre Pio a San Giovanni Rotondo, opera tanto famosa quanto discussa dell'archistar nostrana Renzo Piano. L'opera è molto interessante, soprattutto l'aula liturgica con i suoi 22 archi in pietra locale di Apricena e la grande vetrata è molto scenica e suggestiva. Per contro, non si può non criticare la troppa magnificenza e grandezza dell'intera struttura che ha così trasformato l'intero paese di San Giovanni Rotondo in una 'macchina da soldi' che lucra sulla figura di Padre Pio.
