A Varanasi, la mattina, da tutta l'India uomini e donne arrivano per purificarsi nel Gange. Si dice che qualunque indiano, prima di morire, desideri solo recarsi qui. Ciò che colpisce di quel momento, per noi occidentali, sono i gesti quasi salvifici di chi si immerge in queste acque fetide. A migliaia, prima dell'alba, affollano la calma piatta del grande fiume sacro. Eppure non senti una voce: il tempo sembra sospeso in un silenzio irreale. E allora sono le immagini che urlano nella tua testa, e i colori, e quelle piccole luci sospese delle offerte votive affidate alla corrente. Fotografi, perché sei andato lì per quello, ma senti che restare dietro all'obiettivo è quasi limitativo. Ti impedisce la visuale corale, ti limita il campo visivo. Stacchi l'occhio dal visore, allontani la macchina fotografica, resti in silenzio e guardi. Poi l'istinto di immortalare quella scena così perfetta prende il sopravvento, e ritorni a fotografare. Quando torni a casa e riguardi gli scatti, sei deluso. Talvolta la macchina fotografica dà più di quel l'occhio vede. A Varanasi qualunque scatto - anche quello meglio riuscito - toglie, profana, riduce.

@Ellemme: con gli ISO ero al limite del rumore con la MarkII: 6000.
In realtà sembra molto più luminosa di quanto non fosse la circostanza. In PP ho lavorato parecchio sulle luci e le curve di livello.
Tutta la serie di questo reportage di Varanasi ha risentito dello stesso problema di micromosso dato dal rapporto tempo/iso/diaframma.
Se potessi ci tornerei con la Mk III e so che non avrei più di questi problemi!

Quando siamo borderline con i tempo di scatto dobbiamo decidere in fretta come operare .. è questione di priorità e a che cosa vogliamo rinunciare .. qui potevi rinunciare alla pdc e aprire il diaframma ;-)
