In effetti i colori di questo coleottero sono veramente stupendi: Il colore di base è il verde brillante, ma sono anche presenti l'oro, il blu ed il viola/porpora. La femmina ha la fronte, i lati del pronoto ed il ventre di color viola. I maschi sono completamente verdi ed hanno le antenne ed i femori posteriori piu' massicci delle femmine.
Le larve di questo Buprestide perforano i rami ed i tronchi di Quercus (Quercus ilex, Quercus pubescens, Quercus coccifera, etc.), ed agiscono come parassiti sviluppandosi su alberi malati o morenti. A volte possono infestare alberi giovani causandone la morte. Gli adulti volano in primavera e si nutrono di polline stazionando spesso su graminacee e poacee.
