L'impianto idrovoro di San Siro venne ultimato nel 1926 nell'ambito della Bonificazione Parmigiana- Moglia allo scopo di scaricare nel Secchia le acque dei territori delle province di Reggio Emilia e Modena che si trovano al di sotto della quota di 25 m sul livello del mare (acque basse). Le acque giungono all'impianto attraverso il Cavo emissario che alcuni chilometri a monte, in comune di Moglia, sottopassa il Cavo Parmigiana Moglia grazie alla botte San Prospero. L'impianto di San Siro è costituito da un edificio principale in cui sono installate 8 pompe centrifughe azionate da un motore elettrico, da un bacino di scarico (o mandracchio) e da una chiavica emissaria attraverso cui le acque del bacino di scarico vengono riversate nel Secchia garantendo nel contempo che le acque del fiume in piena non allaghino le campagne. L'architettura degli edifici ha un'evidente impostazione classica, l'uso di laterizio, marmi e ferro battuto contribuisce a coniugare gli aspetti funzionali a quelli estetici in una mirabile sintesi. L'impianto appartiene al Consorzio di bonifica dell'Emilia Centrale.
