La tradizione di questo magnifico spettacolo pirotecnico, affonda le sue radici nel lontano al 1481, quando fu realizzato sul Terrazzo dell'Angelo per celebrare il pontificato di papa Sisto IV. Per suo volere, lo spettacolo della Girandola entrò a far parte della tradizione dei festeggiamenti a Roma e per secoli venne utilizzato per celebrare gli eventi solenni come la Pasqua, la festa dei patroni SS.
