l Palazzo di Wilanów è uno dei monumenti più preziosi del barocco polacco, rappresentando il classico tipo di residenza periferica entre cour et jardin (quindi è una sorta di complesso di corte con il giardino). Il palazzo storico, noto come “Piccola Versailles”, fu voluto dal re Jan III Sobieski nel XVII secolo e fu ampliato dai successivi proprietari. Rappresenta una concezione spaziale che accosta la corte tradizionale polacca con la villa rurale tipica dell'Italia e con il palazzo francese. Dopo la morte di Jan II Sobieski, il palazzo venne ereditato dai suoi figli, e poi diventò la sede di importanti famiglie nobiliari, tra le quali: Sieniawski, Czartoryski, Lubomirski, Potocki e Branicki. Bisogna evidenziare che ognuna delle famiglie enumerate, apportò delle modifiche sia agli interni del palazzo che al giardino. Negli anni 1730-1733 fu la residenza di re Augusto II il Forte. Vale la pena notare che nel 1805 su iniziativa del proprietario, Stanisław Kostka Potocki, nel palazzo fu aperto uno dei primi musei pubblici della Polonia. Il Palazzo di Wilanów (uno dei palazzi più splendidi di Varsavia) è un monumento tutelato dalla legge con appositi vincoli, per i suoi valori artistici, culturali e paesaggistici. Gli interni del palazzo costituiscono un' attrazione turistica essendo caratterizzati da un affascinante mix di design cinese, inglese, polacco ed italiano.
