at 24mm, 30 sec f/4.0, ISO 400, tripod.

from my low COMPETENCE about I can recommend to first raise the ISO 1600-3200 with at least 6D dovrtesti not have any problems ... (F4 I think it's too dark to see the heavens ... I with the 17-40 I have never had a great time ...)
I usually imposed for another white balance manually set to 2700K to have blue skies, however, are more pleasant but then you can do even after adjustments and then last but not least ... the darkness around you !!

Thank you for the tip on the 2700k. Probably the lack of total darkness was very important to the failure to achieve a decent quality, next time I will try an isolated place.

From the high-resolution seems to me that the focus is not perfect, with this already the weakest lose the stars and of course the overall image. Right the idea of ??raising the ISO to lower the time and therefore have more pinpoint stars, but as a highlight in your caption, and also comments on how 7h3l4w (kudos to the nick ;-)) if the sky is not raising his beautiful dark iso ( or increasing the application) the sky background will be gray. So the quality of the sky is definitely important! Following the focus and setting times / iso suitable. Also remember to turn off the IS, it can cause problems with the pictures of the night sky, because it "sees" the natural blur of the stars and tries to compensate for it. Expect more shots!

hello!

Chiara thanks for the advice on the focus. I had configured the 24-105 directly to "infinity", finding it hard to make the auto focus. I will try in the future to manually find a proper focus. Thanks for the advice on the SI that, in fact, he was active! Your photos, I have seen, are fantastic, congratulations, I hope one day to do something like that!

I also struggle a lot with the focus of the stars. I have recommended the raise both the iso and try to focus in liveview, then lower the iso to acceptable levels (I read that you can safely go overboard with 6D, I arrive at 1600, max 3200 with 5D II) and shoot. otherwise manual focus tentativi.a going to infinity, however, is never good ...

Hello! good ... but ... the first ventures in tranquility with the iso even to 6400, being the FF 6D as described in the various post does not suffer as the APSC. I suggest that you also purchase a perspective 2.8, excellent Samyang 14 mm. f2, 8 at a price of 300 € (I do not think will make a difference given the expense for 6d with 24/105:-D :-) :-)) you have a great goal while manual in all! ... good evidence! ciau Andrea ;-)

I did some testing with the last purchase (24 II) and 17-40 compared to the stars pop out in an impressive manner
