Una volpe artica, Svalbard, maggio 2022. Questa volpe è stata attratta dall'odore della carcassa di una foca barbuta, uccisa il giorno prima dal primo orso polare avvistato durante la spedizione. Dopo alcuni tentativi di avvicinarsi alla carcassa, che era attentamente sorvegliata dall'orso, la volpe ha deciso di rinunciare e di andarsene. Sulla via del ritorno, è passata molto lontano dalla nave dove stavamo osservando la scena, lasciandoci uno sfondo drammatico da ammirare. Secondo il Museo delle Svalbard, oggi circa il 60% (36.600 km2) della superficie delle Svalbard è coperto da ghiacciai.
