La nuova chiesa fu costruita in soli tre anni su progetto dell'architetto Elia Fornoni che lo concepì, come allora si usava, in stile gotico a tre navate; fu consacrata il 22 novembre 1896 dal Vescovo Guindani dedicata a S. Giovanni Battista. I portali cuspidati in facciata sono in marmo di Carrara su zoccolo in granito di Montorfano e la statua del santo patrono, pure in marmo, dello scultore novarese Francesco Albera. L'interno assai slanciato è scandito da otto pilieri con zoccolo in marmo di Virle Treponti, dai quali fiorisce la fitta rete di archi e costoloni che reggono le vele delle volte a crociera.
